Spring Time Applique

My design wall is empty right now because I finished my February project!!!  Woohoo!!  The flimsy is done at least.  Now to find backing and get it done!  I hope the bright colors chase away all the snow - it has been a long, hard winter and we need some warm days, birdies, and spring time flowers!!  Soon, I hope, very soon!

The binding will be either the same blue as the border or the pink (you can see just a bit of it in the picture below).  Here are some close-ups of my hand appliqued blocks.

This pattern was taken from a wonderful Piece O' Cake book with instructions for all kinds of applique.  Check back with Judy L's blog to see all the other fantastic design wall projects AND see all the February finishes on Shannon's and Melissa's "A Lovely Year of Finishes".

Design Wall Monday

Here we are again - Monday morning - and my applique quilt hasn't changed since last Monday.  However, I did decide to add a skinny orange border before the blue border.  The skinny border strips are cut so hopefully they will be done later today and you will see it next week.

I do have something to show however!!  The Wedding Quilt!!  DGD received the quilt on Friday and she and her hubby love it.  I am so happy that they are happy with it.  (click on the photos to enlarge and see the quilting!!)

(You can see the hearts in the upper right corner)

The heart block was designed by my friend Lisa, I designed the setting, and it was quilted by my friend Cathy - I asked for a simple, modern quilting pattern.  I am pleased with the result, and most importantly, DGD is happy!!  (sorry, Blogger won't rotate the photo)

Design Wall Monday

Wow, this week sure went fast.  I worked at my LQS on Friday and a customer brought this quilt top in.  She said that it started as a small wall hanging but ended up a very nice sized lap quilt.  The fabric is all batik - her left over bits - and we found a beautiful dark purple/scarlet batik for the back and the binding.  Those little pieces are about 1/2" wide!

I'm working on my applique top and I have most of it done.  One more seam, a few adjustments, and then the borders.  I am very happy with it so far.  Kinda bright but happy I think.

From Piece O' Cake Designs

I also found some "cuff" fabric that matched this old Christmas panel that I've had for awhile (like for years) so I made this pillowcase.  Hmmm, who shall I give it to??  With all the snow we've had up here, the snowmen fit right in!!

Thinking ahead to March, I hope to be teaching a one day (4 hour) class on fusing and machine applique'.  Here's the project I came up with:

Needs an embroidered mouth - Snowman from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks
I'm also getting ready for a free motion quilting class and a binding class that I will be teaching next week.  I really enjoy sharing my love of quilting with my students!

That's all from me this week. Be sure to check back with Judy L. and see all the amazing projects on the design wall.

Happy Stitching!!

New Goals for February

I've decided to join another UFO group - sponsored by Carrie of A Passion for Applique'.  I certainly have enough UFOs to choose from.  I need to choose 3 unfinished projects and complete one by the end of February.

Goal #1:  Complete the top to my applique' quilt.  There are 5 blocks, all appliqued, that need to be set, sashed, and bordered.

Goal #2:  Quilt the Jo Morton top that I finished in January.

Goal #3:  Start on a child's quilt using fun animal prints.  I'd like to get the blocks all cut and arranged.  I have the fabrics from my stash - just need to decide how to set them, sashing?, etc.

I need all the incentives and encouragement that I can get.  It sure feels good to get things finished!!!  Check all the action with my fellow Design Wall and UFO buddies on Judy L's blog, Shanna's blog, and Carrie's blog.

February Goal

Now for February. I think I will tackle my applique quilt that was started in 2011.  The quilt has 5 large blocks and they are all finished.  I need to add sashing and setting triangles, borders, etc.    My goal is to get the top completed and find fabric for the back and binding.  This is such a happy quilt - we need happy quilts during the winter up here in Michigan.  It's a long winter...this will be fun to work on!!

Be sure to check in on the other February goals at Fiber of All Sorts.
